12 Reasons You Shouldn't Invest in Social Media Marketing

We get asked a lot if social media marketing is worth it. We believe it is 100% but, if you find yourself in one of the categories below, it's time to change things up. You are just doing it because...

Social media is one of the perfect places to meet new people, build a brand and widen your influence. However, there are tricks involved in this particular trade. Because it's such a popular (and free) option, millions of people are trying to use it to their advantage. Don't worry, though! There's still room for you to develop a strong presence and make your mark in the social media world. Consider these five basic principles to get started.

1. Captivating Content

There are so many ways to spin content. However, it's important to put a lot of effort into making sure the information is valuable. If it's deemed valuable by the audience, you won't have an issue attracting a consistent flow of traffic—traffic will come to you for the quality content that you give them.

2. Clear Branding

There's a lot that goes into branding. The colors, logo and language all stand out as definitive parts of a person's brand. If you're building a brand through Instagram, before your followers know that you posted the photo, they should be able to recognize it as your brand. Whether it's the filters or hashtags you use, make sure you stick to a specific look and make sure it stands out above the rest.

3. Consistency

One of the reasons why so many people fail to reach their goals is because of a lack of consistency. After being consistent with a specific thing for a few months, many people tend to get lazy and fall off the bandwagon. Instead, dig in your heels and decide to get better as you continue to produce. By being consistent, you weed out a lot of the competition.

4. Engagement

One of the mistakes many make involves the lack of engagement. They just post content and assume that if they post it, people will find them. It's so important to go out, interact, and engage with others on social media. If you're using LinkedIn as an important networking tool, interact with your followers by liking their content, leaving comments and sparking dialogue. These types of actions will help you build a rapport with other people and build your following.

5. Strategy

Above all else, it's so important to have a strategic plan. It might not seem like it's that serious to do, but you want to document everything that's happening. You'll want to keep track of numbers because tracking your progress will help you to notice which tactics bring better results. In many cases, social media success is a numbers game.

As you use these different methods, you'll find that some of them work better than others. Each brand is different, so what works on Facebook may not work well on LinkedIn. The key is to make sure that you're flexible, open to change and impactful. Once you develop a process that really works, the sky is the limit!
