2017 is winding down, homes are (hopefully) winterized, and businesses are tidying up things on the back end before beginning the new year. For many industries, this means business is slower than the norm. Besides running "end of the year specials", what can be done? This is a great time to see where you might have left money on the table in 2017 and where you can grow your business next year. That said, here are a few things you should consider doing going into the new year.

SEE WHAT WILL GROW YOUR BUSINESS, DROP WHAT WON'T

This may be the perfect opportunity to take a good, hard look at what will grow your business forward and what will stunt its growth. Look at what you're investing in and see if it's offering you a good return. If there's a product or service that isn't offering a good return for your business, consider dropping or changing that product or service.

MAKE SURE YOUR BUSINESS PROCESSES ARE ROCK-SOLID

Whether you offer marketing services or catering services, make sure you have you have your processes down pat. This helps ensure your business offers a consistent product or service every time you offer them. While the benefits are obvious when dealing with multiple people, this surely benefits a team-of-one as well. If you get swamped with business and life throws you 10 curveballs in a row, having written processes can help a frazzled mind provide a consistent end-product.

SEE WHERE YOUR BUSINESS MAY BE LEAVING MONEY ON THE TABLE

When brainstorming what can grow your business, the answer isn't always as simple as increasing prices or cutting unnecessary overhead. It's very likely you're leaving money on the "table" (read: market) somewhere. Perhaps this means offering a product or service you haven't offered before. Maybe it's finding ways to get more inbound leads and increase your exposure. In other words, this is the perfect time to go look where you might have left money around that's just waiting to be picked up!

CONCLUSION

Whatever prescription your business needs, you likely already know what it is. As we transition from one year to the next, there is no better time to set up your business for growth than now. Once you're able to enjoy what this season has to offer--time with your family, time for reflection, anything you need to be recharged--then go to your office or other workspace and figure out how you're going to kill it in 2018! See you next year!
